When you look at this picture, what do you see? What do you think? How do you feel? This is a simple picture, not edited, and has endless possibilities for meaning. Take a moment and study it.

When I took this picture I was laying on the beach, relaxing, taking in the beauty and serenity around me, and enjoying time away from the hustle and bustle – basically I was taking time for me. I was recharging my soul. This picture, to me, says peace, beauty, endless possibilities, blessings, quietness, inspiration, stillness and warmth. All thanks to God’s work.

Too often we get so wrapped up in problems, jobs, errands, chores, and everyone else and their problems, jobs, errands and chores, that we forget to hit the pause button and refuel ourselves. Taking time for ourselves is not selfish. It’s necessary to nourish our minds and bodies. It’s necessary to be the best version of ourselves we can be. We’re more effective at everything we do if we spend a little time doing things we love. Think of the last time you did something because you enjoyed doing it – not because you had to do it. How did you feel afterwards? Recharged? Happy? Energized? Don’t you want to feel that everyday? You can.

I challenge you this year to change things up. Find a little bit of time each day to do something you enjoy, that leaves a positive feeling in your mind, and relaxes you. Start and end your day with positive feelings. Don’t check your email or watch the news first thing in the morning or last thing before bed. Try doing a quick morning workout (even if it’s just 10 jumping jacks and 10 push-ups). Read a fun book. Say a prayer. Be intentional about bringing positive feelings into your life this year. Make it your choice. Make it your life. Be BOLD.
